Flames Youth Basketball E-Zine, Issue #002 -- NCAA Tournament Thoughts

Thanks very much for subscribing to our youth basketball newsletter. We hope that all of you had a terrific basketball season. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like basketball season goes by really too fast. As the season ends each year we are always wishing it could continue a little longer. It seems just like when the kids start to play well together and actually do some of the things that we practice, we don’t have any more games left. Now it’s time to get the glove and bat out of the shed and hit the baseball.

NCAA Tournament Thoughts

I am writing this just a couple days before the NCAA Basketball Tournament begins. I get that feeling of “what would that be like” when I watch these great teams and players take the court and put what is no doubt thousands of hours of work and dreams (by the players and their families) into a basketball game. A game that will end the season if they do not win. I also think that many of the tournament players and coaches are reflective with their thoughts at this time of year, thinking about those early Saturday morning games in 4th grade. That Tuesday night practice of wall sits and and defensive slides while hoping you can a drink soon. You know, many will tell you that basketball was never more fun and rewarding than that. Thinking about playing with your buddies on your grade school team with your family scrunched on the sideline to watch, even while Clark Kellogg and Jim Nance are waiting to talk with you.

Many of us in adult life, also reflect back to the same early youth sports time to hopefully find confidence, faith, and motivation to embrace our own NCAA Tourney moments. As youth sports coaches and parents, it is a good reminder of the value and importance of what we do.
